The JRF is a research community of 16 independent, non-university and non-profit research institutes in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The common goal is to conduct sustainable and forward-thinking research for society, economy and politics. The institutes work together across disciplines, conduct joint public relations work, promote young researchers and are evaluated by external experts. In addition to the scientific members, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is a founding member, represented by the Ministry of Culture and Science.

The institutes of the Johannes Rau Research Foundation are institutionally funded by the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Industry & environment
How can we make production, logistics and mobility sustainable?

Society & digitalization
What opportunities and challenges does the digitalization of all areas of our lives entail and how can we shape these for the benefit of individuals and society?

Globalization & integration
