“Raumforschung und Raumordnung | Spatial Research and Planning” is a refereed, german- and english-language journal. It addresses spatial science in Germany and abroad as well as policymakers, practitioners and the interested public. It publishes scientific studies, reports from research and practice as well as commentaries on important new publications. In the spirit of international scientific exchange, the journal also publishes articles in English.

Since June 2023, the Open-Access-journal “Raumforschung und Raumordnung | Spatial Research and Planning” is part of the database Scopus. Special Issue: Regional management of growth (Vol. 80 No. 6 (2022))
A regional, integrated and cooperative settlement policy is important for the sustainable development of cities and regions. In the area of tension between open space protection and growth pressure, regional strategies are required. Formal and informal policies of regional growth management are therefore experiencing a considerable increase in importance. So far, however, there has been little systematic research on the forms, contents and effects of growth management planning. This special issue fills this gap by providing a broad overview of the current discussion and professional practice in this subject area. The high scientific quality of the manuscripts in the sections “Beiträge/Articles, “Berichte aus der Praxis/Practice Reports“ and “Zur Diskussion/Statement“ is ensured by the established double-blind review procedure according to international standards. Topicality is an important goal of RuR. Accordingly, it is published regularly in six issues per year, five of which are Variahefte with thematically flexible and up-to-date contributions. One issue is dedicated specifically and comprehensively to a topic of the highest professional importance.

“Raumforschung und Raumordnung | Spatial Research and Planning“ has been published by oekom verlag since January 2021. Previous issues can temporarily be found at the previous publisher Sciendo.

The publication model of the journal “Raumforschung und Raumordnung | Spatial Research and Planning“ is Open Access (Goldener Weg). The central element of the Golden Way is that the authors remain in possession of the copyrights to their publication. They only grant the editors of the journal the simple right of publication in the respective medium. At the same time, all readers have permission to use the publication under the CC-BY-SA 4.0 licence. The author fees (Article Processing Charges) amount to 250,-Euro (plus VAT) for each accepted and published article.

Publications in the journal appear in a digital and a print form. The digital version can be read and downloaded free of charge and is available via the journal’s website and repositories. The print version comprises six issues per year and can be obtained individually or by subscription via the oekom verlag website. The subscription price will be significantly reduced from 2021: instead of the previous annual fee of 400 euros, institutions or companies will in future only pay 245 euros per subscription (plus 15.95 euros shipping costs in Germany and 25.95 euros abroad). The subscription price for private individuals, small companies (< ten employees) and public planning organisations is 95 euros per year (plus shipping costs).
