For spatial urban research to be socially and trans-regionally relevant, it has to participate in international research debates and be regionally comparative. The ILS is involved in many inter- and transdisciplinary research networks and maintains national and international partnerships with universities and non-university research institutions, with academies, professional associations, foundations and stakeholders involved in spatial planning from the world of business, politics and society.
