WalkUrban Final Conference on 6-7 March 2024

The final conference of the WalkUrban project (https://walkurban.eu/) was held on 6-7 March 2024 at ILS. Due to the strikes of DB and Lufthansa, some of the invited experts and participants were unable to travel to Dortmund, but we managed to change to a hybrid format. In total, ca. 40 people participated online and in person. On the first day the WalkUrban team presented the research methodology and key findings, while local representatives from the three case study cities (Genoa, Dortmund and Gothenburg) presented their policies on promoting walking. Following the presentations, we had fruitful discussions in breakout sessions on the policy implications and future implemen¬tation for creating walking-friendly neighbourhoods. On the second day, four presentations by experts in the field highlighted key issues in urban walkability and other environmentally-friendly transport modes with reference to sister projects and another Horizon project. Finally, transferable lessons from these research projects were explored from practitioners’ perspectives.
